The Commission Member Halyna Shevchuk visited the Court of Justice of the European Union

On January 21–22, 2025, a visit to the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg) took place with the participation of Halyna Shevchuk, a Member of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine. The visit was organized by the EU Project “Pravo-Justice.”

The project actively supports the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to the European Union’s acquis and interacts with government authorities in the negotiation process under Chapters 23 “Justice and Fundamental Rights” and 24 “Justice, Freedom, and Security”.

To facilitate this process in the justice sector, exchange experiences, and deepen knowledge about the work of EU institutions, a visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the Court of Justice of the European Union was arranged.

The Court of Justice of the European Union is the highest judicial authority within the EU’s justice system. The participants were presented with the Court’s practices on judicial independence, impartiality, and integrity, as well as its approach to the transformation of legal education in the context of EU law.

Delegates attended speeches by President of the Court Koen Lenaerts, First Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union Maciej Szpunar, Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union Irmantas Jarukaitis, Judge of the General Court of the European Union Peteris Zilgalvis, and other representatives of the Court.

In addition to exchanging experiences in judicial practice, participants were introduced to the organization and principles of the Court’s operation.

The delegation to Luxembourg also included the Team Leader at the EU Project “Pravo-Justice” Oksana Tsymbrivska, Deputy Team Leader Olga Sribniak, project experts Maja Cvitan Grubisin and Virgilijus Valančius, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy Denys Maslov, Deputy Chairman Pavlo Pavlish, members of the High Council of Justice Tetiana Bondarenko and Olena Kovbii, judges of the Supreme Court, and representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
