19.09.2023

On August 24, 2023, the Chairman of the Commission Roman Ihnatov met online with the representatives of the EU Delegation to Ukraine and the EU “Pravo-Justice” Project.

The purpose of the event was to discuss work priorities and confirm the intention to continue cooperation between the Commission and the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

The Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Roman Ihnatov emphasized that the Commission is grateful to see how the European Union and the projects it implements in Ukraine are positively influencing and supporting justice system reforms to improve the independence, efficiency, quality, integrity and transparency of the judiciary. In particular, he noted that since the beginning of the work of the new Commission establishment, it has managed to take several important steps towards these changes. One of them is the creation of the Public Integrity Council, which will help to replenish the judiciary based on objectivity and integrity. This will allow the Commission to begin implementing strategically important plans in the context of Ukraine’s fulfillment of its obligations under the EU-Ukraine Memorandum of Understanding between the European Union and Ukraine for Macro-Financial Assistance to Ukraine, including  the Rule of Law sector.

Good Governance and the Rule of Law Section Specialist of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Oleksandra Yanovska emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue between the Commission and the EU “Pravo-Justice” Project and expressed hope for further cooperation.

It is worth reminding that the Project “Support to Justice Sector Reforms and Digitalization in Ukraine” (Pravo-Justice II) is currently being implemented. Its goal is to support national authorities in strengthening the Rule of Law in Ukraine; improve the management of justice sector reforms in terms of strategic planning, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of reforms in the sector; strengthen the independence, efficiency, quality, integrity, and transparency of the judiciary and access to fair trial; and implement policy tools in the field of justice sector digitization and
e-justice.
