On October 5, 2023, the Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Roman Ihnatov held a working meeting with a delegation of judges from the State of California, USA.
The Deputy Chairman of the Commission Ruslan Sydorovych and the Head of the Commission’s Secretariat Olena Ponomarenko also attended the meeting.
The Chairman of the Commission welcomed the guests from the United States and assured that the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine is always open to cooperation with international partners in the field of strengthening the Rule of Law, and its cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has reached the level of strategic partnership.
He told the participants of the event about the powers of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, its current and future plans, and emphasized the importance of the participation of the renewed Public Integrity Council in establishing the compliance of a judge (a candidate for the position of a judge) with the criteria of professional ethics and integrity for the purposes of qualification evaluation.
In turn, judges from the state of California said that they have been making familiarization visits to various countries in recent years. The purpose of the visit to Ukraine is to compare judicial practices, study and exchange experience in implementing information systems in the judicial process, and the functioning of courts in the context of armed conflict.
In addition, one of the important components of the visit of American judges is to assure the Ukrainian side of their support and the possibility of involvement in an advisory or consultative role within the framework of investigations and trials of war crimes committed by russia against Ukraine.
