Public Council of Integrity: functions and powers

On 26 October 2016 the Ukrainian Bar Association jointly with the Council of Europe Project “Support to implementation of the judicial reform in Ukraine” and the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine organized the workshop “Public Council of Integrity: Functions and Powers.”

The participants of the event included Mr. Stanislav Shchotka, Secretary of the Commission Qualification Chamber, Mr. Denys Buhay, President of Ukrainian Bar Association, Mrs. Nina Betetto, Vice-President of the Supreme Court of Slovenia, Mr. Andrii Kavakin, Manager of the Council of Europe “Support to the implementation of the judicial reform in Ukraine,” judges, public figures, experts, advocates and others.

The meeting was aimed to discuss the draft legal acts on the functions and powers of the Public Council of Integrity, which, in particular, were the draft Regulation on Public Council of Integrity and the draft Rules of Procedure.

Mr. Stanislav Shchotka noted that the Commission received applications for participation in the meeting on the establishment of the Public Council of Integrity from 42 organizations, 9 of which were identified by the Commission as those that meet the legal requirements.

During the workshop the participants also raised the issue on compliance of the Regulation on Public Council of Integrity provisions with the standards and recommendations of the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe Expert
Mrs. Nina Betetto shared the international experience with the audience in this regard.
