The HQCJU has published the names of the winners upon the results of the competition to the new Supreme Court

On July 27, 2017 the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine has approved, during a plenary mission, a ranking of 320 candidates to the positions of Supreme Court judges. 120 persons won the selection, including judges, lawyers, academics and persons with a mixed background.

“Among those who won the selection, we can see professors and academics from Universities, a judge who volunteered to fight for the Donetsk airport, lawyers with previous experience of litigation in the European Court of Human Rights, those who graduated from renown international universities. I hope that very soon they will become the new faces of Ukrainian justice”, says head of the HQCJ, Mr. Sergii Koziakov.

The selection started on November 7, 2016. 1436 persons registered themselves to participate in the selection, 846 persons filed their documents, and 653 out of them were admitted to the selection, while 625 persons were later admitted to the qualification assessment.

During the selection, its participants sat through professional and psychological tests, were checked by the National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine and by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention, the Public Integrity Council, etc.

The HQCJ hold interviews in boards with 381 candidates.

Using the selection results, the High Qualification Commission of Judges will send its recommendations to the High Council of Justice on the appointment of 120 judicial candidates to the relevant cassation courts, part of the Supreme Court (administrative, commercial, criminal and civil), 30 judges for each of courts mentioned.

All the selection procedures were drafted and implemented with participation and support from both Ukrainian and international experts, including the European Union project “Support to the Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine” and the USAID project “New justice”, “OS Ukraine”.

“The Supreme Court selection has been unprecedented in its scale and transparency. This is a real result of a large-scale judicial reform, which started two years ago. The Commission congratulates the selection winners. We are grateful to everyone who went through this difficult road with us” has summed up head of the HQCJ, Mr. Sergii Koziakov.
